Glowing Stones

Pebble Beach along the Northern California coast makes up the farthest reaches of Bean Hollow State Beach. The beach is made up entirely of surf polished pebbles with the occasional sandstone outcroppings known as Tafoni. Scallop shaped, the Tafoni tends to be very dark in tone and difficult to capture in most light, eluding the camera lens. But on this occasion everything came together perfectly to allow these rocks to glow and reveal their sinuous and regal essence. Nearly impervious to the pounding surf, they mimic the shape of the waves almost in defiance of the powerful ocean while exhibiting a glow that can only come from the ultimate patience of riding out the punishment dealt by the ocean, wave after pounding wave.
