Autumn 2004 Newsletter
Dear Friends, Supporters and Patrons of Organic Light,

AUTUMN MESSAGE

Colors of autumn are always wonderful and this year is no different. With Autumn in full swing here in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the weather turning nippy we start to look ahead to the quiet time of winter and reflect on the fun times of summer. Autumn always comes with contemplation. Something about the colors and the way the leaves fall of the trees and carpet the ground just makes you start pondering. Another interesting observation is that autumn comes early to the higher elevations and works its way down to the low lands. This year I missed the fall colors in the Sierra, and was very disappointed at "missing fall". But then I decided to photograph my autumn, the autumn of my own backyard so to speak. What I found was an incredible plethora of autumn colors and moods. A smattering of what I found can be seen on the New Images gallery on my website at http://www.organiclightphoto.com/news/default.asp

As a photographer, traveling to scenic and exotic locales is somehow part and parcel with the business and missing a season at the photo hotspots could be devastating. However, what is most often overlooked is what lies right under your nose. This autumn my wife and I were reading with our children the timeless classic "The Wizard of Oz". What is so poignant about that story is the lesson that if you can't be happy with what you have "in your own backyard" then you will never be happy anywhere. And so I made due, and went out into my own back yard figuratively and literally for my images of autumn this year. The results were quite surprising, and yes I was content. So the next time we start yearning for something exotic and different, we should take a look around our backyard and thank God for the blessings that we never seem to appreciate.
