Eid Mubarak!
Congratulations on Eid Al-Fitr! The moon was seen this evening, September 20th 2009, marking Shawwal 1, 1430 and the beginning of Eid Al-Fitr.
Eid, as the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him said, is a day of Eating and Drinking and Remembering God. So lets!

Salaam,
Eid Mubarak. We celebrated Eid on Sunday,Sept 20th. We were at Noor Masjid Santa clara and came to know that sbia announced Eid because moon has been sited. It was on 20th evening, when we came back from Eid celebration, I checked your website to see the cresecent and was surprised to see the blank postcard. Not sure whats going on because sbia and fremont islamic center always followed moonsiting.Anyways, belated Eid greetings.

Iram,
I returned late on the evening of the 20th, as we were invited to an iftar. For the past 20 years I have been deeply involved with moonsighting and still am. Three years ago SBIA, Zaytuna, and several other moonsighting committes around the country convened at a conference and formed a consensus to announce Ramadan and Eid based on moonsighting solely on if the moon was seen in North America (48 contiguous states and Canada) This year a sizable group from the overall consenuating group decided unilaterally that they were going to accept moonsighting reports from the Carribean and South America. SBIA and several other communities that normally follow moonsighting, took positive sightings from South America as their criteria this year. Al Hamdu Lillah. The rest of the consenting body is taking up that issue for discussion as a possible criteria for future dates. All is fine, and I think all has fallen inside the shari’a. A belated Eid Mubarak to you and your family as well, and Umrah Mabroor, and Jazaki Allahu Khairan for the dates and Zamzam, both rare treats.

Assalamu alaykum, akhee i look your moon photos and i love them. I tried to do photos like yours but i have a canon 350d (i think rebel xt in usa) with a 18-55mm, your camera is clearly better than my camera, and your lenses too, but i want to know how to do good moon photos, so if you can post any article explaining how to do it, i will remember you in my du’a in sha Allah. Barak Allahu fik.
