Salutations

In the desert, one is usually alone. It is not a hospitable place and so it is usually barren. Nonetheless, there are reasons to wander out into these arid lands. Springtime wildflower blooms are one of those reasons. Carpets stretch for miles in some cases, and at times one can be carried away far from roads walking about looking for interesting features. Surprisingly, a variety of desert plants makes this portion of the California High Desert their home. The Joshua Tree is one of them; a strange prehistoric looking tree with long thin sharp spiny leaves similar to a Yucca but much more menacing and contorted. However sometimes, they seem as friendly as can be, especially when they appear to be waving hello. Is it not strange how a simple salutation of peace can bring a smile to your face and tranquility to your heart?
