Elements
Our lives are made up of many moments in time strung together to form a continuum that we experience from day to day. Our lives also have many different facets that mesh together around who we are – Self, Family, Friends, Work, Play, that intersect with those moments of time and we, who we are, happen to be that intersection point. No individual can experience another person’s life because they cannot be at the same intersection of time and the elements that surround that person. A photograph, on the other hand, is a unique excerpt of the life of the person who made it. It brings together all the elements of a person’s life that brought the photographer to that very spot in time and captures the light at that very instant. And unlike time that keeps marching on, a photograph freezes the moment in which it was made and allows us to peer into the life of its maker and ponder on what brought that person to see and make such a photo.
