Electric Dreams

The California Poppy is one of the most vividly colored flowers. Bright and vibrant they have a magical glow about them that almost makes them look like they are lit electrically. At the same time they are fragile, delicate and flutter in the slightest of breezes. And on top of all of that, they are the most fickle of flowers. They will only open up in the brightest time of the day, usually between 10 am and 3 pm, and when it is warm, making photographing them a real chore in that hard lighting. Finally, they are fleeting. They only bloom for a very short time before their blossoms wither away and vanish. In all aspects they mimic our youth. Full of exuberance and life we set out in our youth reaching for the sky trying to attain our lofty dreams. Before we know it however, we look back and wonder where our youth has gone? If you are still young, grab hold of it and make use of it for good things, before your exuberance withers away to the vicissitudes of time. And if you are not young, then use your wisdom to help a young one you know achieve great things.
